Mozilla Firefox Black screen error


Mozilla Firefox black screen issue generally occurs due to a bug from the recent update of Firefox. As explained by Mozilla, the black screen is caused because of a new feature called OFF main Thread Compositing (OMTC). This feature enables videos and animations to perform smoothly over short periods of blocking. Disable Hardware Acceleration

Follow these steps to disable hardware acceleration:
·         Open Firefox and type “about: preferences” in the address bar. Enter.
·         Now scroll down and uncheck “Use recommended performance settings”.
·         Under the performance uncheck “Use hardware acceleration when available”.
·         Close Firefox.
·         Reboot your PC.

Start Firefox in safe mode.

If the above method didn’t work for you, try below steps:
·         Open Mozilla Firefox and click on three lines.
·         Go to menu and click on Help. Now click “Restart with Add-ons Disabled”.
·         Click on Restart from the pop-up.
·         After restarting you will be asked to either “Start in safe mode or Refresh Firefox”.
·         Now click on “Start in safe mode”.
·         Check if your Mozilla Firefox Black screen issue is resolved or not.

Update your current version of Firefox.

Updating your Mozilla Firefox to the latest version is also a good way to solve the issue.
·         Open Mozilla Firefox. Now from the right-hand corner of the screen, click on the three lines.
·          A menu will open. Click on Help and then “About Firefox”.
·         Firefox will check for new updates automatically and will download it, if available.
·         Now Restart your PC to save the changes.

Temporarily Disable Antivirus and Firewall.

Try to disable your Antivirus and firewall temporarily and see if the problem persists.
·         Go to Antivirus program icon and right-click on it.
·         Select disable from the options that appear.
·         Now select the time frame for which you want the antivirus to remain disabled.
·         Try to choose small time frame i.e. 15 minutes or 30 minutes.
·         Now open Mozilla Firefox and see if the error has gone or not.
·         Go to the Windows search option and type control. Click on Control Panel from the search results that appear.
·         Click on “System and Security”.
·         Click on turn Windows Firewall on or off from the left window panel.
·         Click on Turn off Windows Firewall. Restart your PC.
·         Open Firefox and see if you are able to fix the Mozilla Firefox black screen issue or not.
·         If the problem is not solved yet, follow the above steps again to turn on your Firewall again.

Disabling Firefox Extensions

If none of the above methods are working, try disabling Firefox Extensions.
·         Go to Firefox and type “about addons” in the search bar and enter.
·         Now disable all extensions by clicking disable next to each extension.
·         Open Mozilla Firefox again and enable one extension at a time to detect which is the culprit one.
·         After enabling anyone extension, you will have to restart your computer.
·         If you were able to detect the extension which is causing the problem, remove it and reboot your PC.

These methods are very simple and fix the error most of the time.
